Building Brave Spaces Across Difference (Day 1)

Description

In this two-day training, we will explore what it means to act in solidarity for folks with historically marginalized identities. This training will focus specifically on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ populations, and recognize the beautiful intersection of these identities as well. On day one, the trainers will spend time walking participants through the assumptions or unconscious biases they might be bringing into spaces and have a chance to explore learned values and beliefs that may be influencing their allyship. It is important to walk-back and begin undoing our unconscious biases before we can move into a space of genuine solidarity.

In day two, participants will learn more specific frameworks and tools to help them figure out when and where to use their voices to fight for justice. The trainers will offer their insights on how to support our BIPOC and/or LGBTQ+ friends, family, and coworkers, even if we do not share common identities. How can we take these strategies and apply them to the work we’re doing in communities? This training will use a mix of small and large group discussion, hands-on activities, and deep self-reflection. Come prepared to dig into heart work, and walk away with some strategies and best practices.
